Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20, 1964. She is an American politician. She is also the first vice president to be female and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as being the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general for California between 2011 and 2017 and also as an United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Her first job was with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later promoted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez during the 2016 Senate elections to become the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be senator in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and campaigned for reforms to healthcare as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling an opportunity to become a citizen for undocumented immigrant immigrants and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials during Senate hearings earned the attention of the nation, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
